Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesnInstruction and Student LearningnPlan and deliver engaging orchestral instruction that integrates performance, music theory, musical literacy, and ensemble musicianship. nFoster deep conceptual learning by helping students make connections between music, culture, history, and artistic expression.nTeach instrumental technique, sight-reading, tone production, and ensemble balance, with particular expertise in string pedagogy.nDifferentiate instruction to support varied musical backgrounds, abilities, and interests. nEncourage reflection, discipline, creativity, and artistic risk-taking through individual and ensemble performance experiences. nCultivate a safe, inclusive, and student-centered environment where all learners are empowered to explore and express themselves musically. nAssessment and FeedbacknDesign and use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to measure musical growth and ensemble proficiency. nProvide timely and constructive feedback to guide student reflection and technical improvement. nMaintain accurate records of student progress and communicate achievement with students and families through appropriate channels (gradebook, Toddle, conferences). nCollaboration and Curriculum DevelopmentnCollaborate with music and arts faculty to ensure vertical curriculum alignment and foster interdisciplinary connections.nEngage in curriculum review to ensure repertoire and instruction reflect diverse musical traditions and global perspectives. nContribute to collaborative performances and school-wide events. nWork closely with the Arts and Activities departments to provide opportunities for student performances within and beyond the school communitynProfessional Practice and Community EngagementnOrganize and lead concerts, festivals, tours, and community performances that celebrate student learning and achievement.nMaintain instruments, equipment, and orchestral resources, ensuring equitable access and proper care. nParticipate in departmental meetings, professional learning, and school-wide initiatives. nModel professionalism in attendance, punctuality, and communication, and actively engage with families and the broader community through music. nCertifications and EducationnRequiredn Master’s degree in Music Education, Conducting, or Instrumental Performance. n Teaching certification/license (valid in Brazil, U.S. or internationally recognized equivalent). nDesirednMaster’s degree in Music Education, Conducting, or Instrumental Performance. nCertification in instrumental music instruction, ensemble leadership, or Strings pedagogy.nExperiencenRequirednMinimum of five years of classroom and/or ensemble teaching experience. nProven experience directing orchestral ensembles or small groups, including programming concerts and events.n Familiarity with advisory or homeroom programs supporting adolescent development.nDesirednExperience in international or multicultural school settings. nProfessional orchestral performance experience.nExperience preparing students for external festivals, competitions, or examinations. n Experience implementing and supporting Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for students. nKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesnRequirednStrong knowledge of orchestral repertoire, music history, and ensemble pedagogy.n Expertise in string pedagogy, like Suzuki or Paul Rolland;nSkilled in arranging and adapting music for varied student ensembles. nStrong conducting skills and rehearsal techniques. n Strong communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.nCapacity to create a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. nDesirednFamiliarity with international music curricula (e.g., IB, or similar). n Proficiency with music technology (notation software, digital audio workstations, rehearsal apps). nAbility to mentor students in chamber music, composition, and advanced performance pathways.
