Primary Purpose of the PositionnThe High School Biology Teacher delivers inquiry-based instruction that develops students’ understanding of biological concepts and real-world application of science. Through laboratory experiences, research, and collaborative learning, the teacher cultivates scientifically literate and globally minded learners aligned with the school’s mission and values.nnMain Duties and Responsibilities nInstruction and Student LearningnPlan and deliver high-quality biology instruction across high school grade levels (e.g., Grades 9–12), including foundational and advanced courses as assigned.nDesign engaging, inquiry-based lessons that integrate scientific concepts, laboratory skills, and real-world applications.nFacilitate student understanding of core topics such as cell biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, and human biology.nDevelop students’ scientific literacy, data analysis, research, and critical thinking skills.nPromote student ownership of learning through reflection, inquiry, and independent investigation.nLaboratory and Practical WorknDesign and implement safe, effective, and engaging laboratory experiences aligned with curriculum objectives.nTeach proper use of laboratory equipment, scientific methods, and safety protocols.nSupervise and manage laboratory activities to ensure student safety and meaningful learning.nMaintain and organize laboratory materials, equipment, and resources.nAssessment and FeedbacknDesign and administer diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments aligned with course standards.nProvide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth and scientific understanding.nMaintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress with students and families.nPrepare students for internal and external assessments as applicable (e.g., IB, AP, or standardized exams).nCollaboration and Curriculum DevelopmentnCollaborate with science department colleagues to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.nParticipate in curriculum development and review to reflect current scientific knowledge and best practices.nContribute to interdisciplinary initiatives and STEM-related programs.nProfessional Practice and Community EngagementnCommunicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues in culturally appropriate ways.nParticipate actively in professional development, departmental meetings, and school-wide initiatives.nContribute to extracurricular activities such as science clubs, fairs, or research opportunities.nDemonstrate professionalism in attendance, punctuality, conduct, and communication.nnCertifications and EducationnRequirednBachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Science Education, or a related field.nValid teaching certification/license (U.S. or internationally recognized equivalent).nDesired nMaster’s degree in Biology, Science Education, or related discipline.nCertification or training in IB Biology, AP Biology, or advanced science programs.nnExperience nRequirednMinimum of five years of high school science teaching experience.nDemonstrated experience teaching biology through inquiry-based and laboratory approaches.nDesirednExperience teaching IB, AP, or honors-level biology courses.nExperience in international or multicultural school settings.nExperience mentoring students in research projects, science fairs, or competitions.nnKnowledge, Skills and Abilities nRequirednStrong content knowledge in biology and life sciences.nAbility to design and facilitate inquiry-based and laboratory-centered instruction.nStrong classroom management and organizational skills in lab and classroom settings.nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.nDesirednFamiliarity with international curricula (e.g., IB, AP, NGSS, or similar).nAbility to integrate technology and data tools into science instruction.nKnowledge of environmental science, sustainability, or interdisciplinary STEM approaches.
